Being used to round dialled wrist watches, the Sevenfriday watch collections may come across as a bit out-of-the-ordinary to most of us. They certainly warranty a second look. Just like what happened to me a few days ago when I saw Eric sporting some sort of a tactical equipment on his wrist. Knowing Eric and his penchant for the unique, I guessed he must have picked up one more unusual piece to add to his quirky collection of wrist watches. Spot on…Eric had bought a Sevenfriday P-Series Automatic P1B01 SF-P1B-01 Men’s Watch.
Sevenfriday? What kind of brand name is that, I asked? The word Sevenfriday means ‘Seize the day’ but the founder wanted to interpret it the modern way – to live every day of the week as a Friday – Friday being the happiest day of the week. It’s not only the name, in fact, everything about this watch brand is unusual, Eric explained.
Founded by Daniel Niederer in 2012, Sevenfriday is a relatively new entry, yet it has achieved a quick success in the competitive watch industry. Today, Sevenfriday timepieces are sold in more than 90 countries of the world. The watches may not exactly be cheap, but their uncommon designs and exclusive industrial themed pieces have gathered a large following from folks with a creative bent of mind as well as the youngsters who look for something out of the ordinary.
Although Sevenfriday is a Swiss brand, the timepieces are manufactured in factories in China, using the best quality Japanese movements. Creative control remains with the Swiss company.
Gauging from Eric’s P-Series Automatic, the Sevenfriday brand of watches are completely unique in shape and design. You won’t find anything similar to the cushion-shaped square dial. It is designed to look like an industrial cogwheel and the complicated look of the dial comes from six layers of discs that take care of the workings of the watch. The unique shape of the watch case gives it a distinct look. All Sevenfriday watches follow a similar design pattern, making them very distinctive timepieces to own. And, they wouldn’t fail to get you the attention you desire.
With respect to materials and quality, the watch uses a Miyota 82S7 automatic movement and offers a 40-hour power reserve feature. An NFC chip embedded in the watch allows you to verify its authenticity. However, this timepiece does not offer much in terms of water resistance and will only weather the occasional rain shower or water splashes. A good quality leather strap with a buckle clasp completes this rather large, 48mm diameter watch.
